Kang Xia is a professional private cello teacher with more than 30 years of teaching and performance experience. He teaches students from beginner through advanced levels and has been providing private cello instruction in McLean, Great Falls, Vienna, Reston, Oakton, Herndon, and surrounding areas in Northern Virginia for more than seven years.

Mr. Xia is a member of the following professional organizations:

·         Music Teachers National Association (MTNA)

·         Virginia Music Teachers Association (VMTA)

·         Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association (NVMTA)

·         Fairfax Arts Coalition for Education (FACE)

As a professional cellist, Mr. Xia regularly performs with the Virginia Chamber Orchestra. From 2009 to 2019, he served as a full-time cellist with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in China. He has also performed in the United States with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Long Island Philharmonic, and Plainfield Symphony Orchestra in New Jersey, where he served as Principal Cellist.

In addition, Mr. Xia is a member of both the Washington, D.C. Federation of Musicians and the Baltimore Musicians’ Association, Local 40-543.

Mr. Xia served as a jury member for the 2020 Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestras (TCSYO) Concerto Competition. In recent years, a number of his students have been successfully accepted into the Senior Regional Orchestra (SRO) and District Honors Orchestra (DHO). Many of his students have also been accepted into leading youth orchestras in the Washington metropolitan area, including the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras (AYPO), Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras (MCYO), Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestras (TCSYO), and Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra (LSYO).

In 2023, Mr. Xia was invited to serve as a cello sectional coach at Langley High School in Virginia, and he has continued in this role since then. He settled in Wolf Trap, Vienna, Virginia, where he founded Kang Cello Studio.

Mr. Xia continues to pursue his work in cello teaching, orchestral performance, chamber music, and studio recording.
